New uses for things around my stash

I had purchased a package of decals at Michaels a while back that were meant for using on polymer clay pendants for decoration. I hadn't actually tried them yet, but while i was looking for something else I discovered these and thought I could use some of them in my art journal. There was a page of them with hotel names and some postage cancellations. I cut a few out and following the instructions I put them on my travel pages I already had designed in my journal. They fit in perfectly, added color and a sense of places one would travel to with the names printed on them. Sometimes you will find things you didn't expect will work into an art journal perfectly well.
I have finished up two ATC journals using small dollar store journals and the ATC's I made last year. I have a third under construction and one with a collection of gift tags I've done. Doing the various things at the same time gives me a larger surface to start using up a page of scrapbook paper, then the smaller books will use up the smaller parts of the page that are left, and at the end I can either collage the small scraps together to cover a page or use them for design elements or even to punch shapes out of for decorating other areas. I use lots of punched shapes on the gift tags.
I always save postage stamps i recieve on letters to add to various pages or gift tags and sometimes I even save the cancellation around the stamp if it says something interesting or is from another city. There are always images everywhere, magazines, old books, advertising, etc. Any image that pleases you asthetically  can be used in some way in collaging. Art journals are an open ended idea book where you can try out lay outs, ideas, combinations etc that you wouldn't directly want to take to a canvas or something right away. An art journal gives you permission to play. Then when a page works out particularly well you can always blend it into your more spectacular work.
